The Health Service Executive (HSE) Ireland recently launched a new prevention online learning programme to provide Health Care Workers (HCW) with the knowledge to reduce Healthcare Acquired Infections in their practice.
Designed and developed in collaboration with Aurion Learning, the custom E-Learning programme uses a combination of video drama, coupled with real-work scenario-based learning, to help HCW’s understand how infections are spread and apply the necessary standard precautions in the healthcare setting.
Created for HCW’s, both in a clinical and non-clinical setting, the self-directed programme also contains practical work-based reflective activities that will enable learners to apply their learning in the workplace.
Commenting on the programme, Dr. Maureen Murphy, Managing Director at Aurion Learning said:
“It was our job as educationalists to ensure that HCW’s were able to relate and engage with this topic. To achieve this, we used a number of scenarios, illustrating both poor practice and best practice within a number of different settings and roles. Learners are also given the task of identifying risks or hazards as the central characters carry out their day to day duties.”
“Using scenario based learning will also provide rich feedback to reinforce the learning and opportunities for reflection to help the learner identify where they could be changing their practice on a day to day basis.”
As the sole E-Learning provider, the online programme is the latest in a series of innovative learning content and support tools that Aurion Learning has developed in collaboration with HSE.
The new ‘Breaking the Chain of Infection’ e-learning programme is now accessible on HSELanD, the HSE’s central online learning and development portal and is available to all healthcare staff, across all disciplines.
