Making eLearning work in the Public Sector

22 July 2008

Dr Maureen Murphy recently addressed the Institute of Public Administration’s Forum on Learning and Development, which took place on June the 24th 2008 in the Radisson Hotel, Farnham Estate, Cavan. The Event was well attended by HR, Training and Learning and Development practitioners from across the Irish public sector and proved to be very successful. According to Dr Murphy,

“eLearning has had mixed reviews over the last decade with many organisations deploying and subsequently abandoning their online learning initiatives because “it just didn’t work”.”

In an attempt to address these issues and explore further the present day opportunities for ‘getting it right’, Dr Murphy delivered a short interactive workshop entitled ‘Making eLearning work in the Public Sector’ looking at the critical success factors in making eLearning work in the public sector in Ireland.

Dr. Murphy provided an overview of where the industry is, what organisations need to consider when introducing eLearning, what technology is available to support eLearning and how the rise in rapid eLearning and informal learning is changing the way eLearning is commissioned, designed and managed by the organisation and the learning community.

Participants were also given the opportunity to explore how eLearning could fit within their own learning and development strategy.
