01 June 2009
Dr Maureen Murphy recently addressed an audience at a Business In The Community (BITC) Event in Belfast launching Aurion’s exciting new innovative software solution designed to help organisations address Health and Well-being issues in the workplace. The Event entitled ‘Managing workplace stress’ was organised by Business In The Community and hosted at the BT Tower in Belfast on the 20th of May. It was exceptionally well attended by a broad range of public and private sector organisations across Northern Ireland clearly highlighting the importance of the issue and the need to learn more about how it can be addressed. The lead speaker Chris Clark, Chief Executive BT Ireland, spoke about the importance of addressing Health and Well-being issues in the workplace and the benefits that it brings not only to each individual employee but also at an organisational level. Other speakers included Linda Murphy, Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland and Tanya Kennedy, Workplace Campaigns Director with BITC Northern Ireland.

Dr Murphy took time to demonstrate ‘The Well-Being Hub’ a new leading edge software application that provides employees with continuous access to interactive support across a wide variety of well-being related issues. The portal includes extensive links to lifestyle advice promoting and supporting personal well-being, with topics including work-life balance, exercise, sleeping, alcohol, smoking, dealing with debt and more. An event calendar informs employees on what is happening inside and outside the organisation, including health promotion, charity activities, family events, arts and culture and more and a well-being audit function, based on HSE guidelines are among the key features of the Well-Being Hub.
Commenting on how the solution is deployed and delivered, Dr Murphy highlighted that,
"The Well-Being Hub is delivered as a fully managed and hosted service whereby Aurion look after everything including the hosting environment, the deployment process, configuration and branding to reflect each client organisation. On an ongoing basis the site is changed and updated to reflect new thoughts and research informed by the research and development team at the University of Ulster."
In terms of organisational benefits the Well-Being Hub is designed to reduce workplace stress and its associated costs by proactively supporting those in need of help, whilst facilitating the early detection of stress related issues both at an individual and organisational level before they escalate.
The event generated significant interest in the Well-Being Hub, which has already attracted some high profile clients, including the Northern Bank who have made it available to over 2000 employees.
