NIPEC Launch Refreshed Online Portfolio

Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery has redeveloped their online portfolio site in partnership with healthcare eLearning specialists, Aurion Learning.

The online portfolio is a free resource designed for registered nurses and midwives in Northern Ireland to record and securely store information required for Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) revalidation.

Aurion Learning re-built the NIPEC online portfolio website in ASP.NET to ensure that the resource was more maintainable and future-facing.

User experience was also enhanced by modernising the design to create a more navigable, understandable and accessible solution that works across all devices, including mobile.

Commenting on the launch, Operations Director at Aurion Learning, Barry Kelly commented:

“Working closely with NIPEC, our education and design team reworked the design using a learner lead and mobile first approach that not only applied a fresh look to the site but ensured that the thousands of nurses and midwives accessing their portfolio could do so on a device of their choice.”

He added:

“As the core focus of the online portfolio is keeping track of personal development and training, we designed a dashboard area that will be the central point for users when they log in. This area will contain a new profile, status and resources widget with quick access to their latest NMC revalidation activity.”

Introduced in April 2016, revalidation is the process that all nurses and midwives in the UK need to go through in order to renew their registration with the NMC to continue practising.

Over 17,000 registered nurses and midwives working across five health and social care trusts, ambulance service and regional services in Northern Ireland are required to complete this.

Aurion Learning has been working with NIPEC since 2010 to develop a range of online learning and development initiatives.
