The Department of Health National Patient Safety Office (NPSO) aims to ensure safe health services by leading key patient safety policy initiatives. One of these initiatives centres on extending the national clinical effectiveness framework to promote evidence-based healthcare.

Challenge

In late 2016, the NPSO identified a requirement for a suite of online learning resources that would enable individuals and groups to advance their clinical effectiveness knowledge and skills at a time and pace that best suits their schedule in an accessible and flexible format.

Solution

In late 2016, Aurion Learning successfully tendered for the contract to develop a suite of clinical effectiveness eLearning courseware and configure a learning management system for the National Patient Safety Office. Utilising our expertise in reviewing requirements from a technical, graphic design and instructional design standpoint, we combined a wide range of engaging content formats including video pieces to camera and eLearning interactions.
In order to meet and exceed NPSO’s requirements for this project, Aurion delivered the following core services:

  • Production of 3 instructional videos, including pre-production, scripting by an Instructional Designer, an on-site video shoot and post-production to include editing and the addition of appropriate graphic elements. The videos are pieces to camera by key members of the NPSO team.
  • Design and development of 2 eLearning modules on clinical effectiveness topics, including Budget Impact Analysis. Modules were developed in the Articulate Storyline authoring tool with NPSO, Clinical Effectiveness Unit and Department of Health branding and a range of interactivity throughout.
  • Configuration of a NPSO branded LearnUpon learning management system. Branded as the Learning Zone, the NPSO LearnUpon portal is accessible from the Clinical Effectiveness Unit website and enables learners to access a full range of eLearning resources, including documents, eLearning modules and instructional videos.

Aurion Learning successfully retendered in 2019 to continue to support the National Patient Safety Office with their learning management system.
