Queen's University Belfast



Queen's University Belfast is a member of the Russell Group of the UK's 24 leading research-intensive institutions and has in excess of 20,000 students and approximately 3,500 staff.

Queen’s University Belfast wanted to develop an Equality and Diversity eLearning package for its students that would boost awareness of Equality and Diversity topics.

Aurion Learning was appointed as the University’s eLearning partner to design and develop the new Equality and Diversity digital educational resource for its University students at all stages of their studies.



To create an educational, highly interactive and engaging resource, Aurion Learning collaborated with both staff and student representatives from the University during the development process to produce a contemporary programme that is accessible via modern devices.

The eLearning resource addresses a wide range of issues including disability, sexual orientation, race, and religious affiliations.

To ensure the resource was realistic and relevant to the needs and learning patterns of students, we included real students and staff from the University and made effective use of audio and video clips, audio voiceover and animation targeted at the student audience.

The online learning resource incorporates video interviews with students discussing their views on equality and diversity, and also includes images from an on-location photo shoot at Queen’s University Belfast with volunteer students.

In addition, the Equality and Diversity eLearning resource includes:

  • High quality animations and interactive quizzes to keep students engaged with the learning content.
  • Compulsory post-learning exercises at the end of each topic to enable students to review their learning.
  • Additional learning resources, which learners can use to complete further study.


The Equality and Diversity eLearning resource, Think Difference, Act Differently was the first eLearning package of this nature for students.

It was rolled out to a sample group of students, with the intention of eventually rolling the programme out to the entire student body as part of their learning about equality diversity and the University’s culture and during their first year.

The new student programme will be the second Equality and Diversity eLearning programme that Aurion has developed for the University, having previously worked on the ‘Diversity Now’ project for the University’s Staff Training Unit.

The objective in itself was a challenge but came with a particularly demanding implementation schedule.
